Runaway bride

Actually she likes to run and got married around the marathon, we are not in a romantic comedy or such.

Marathon

I am not good ar running on long distance, I used to be better at speed on short distance, but lost my training for that too. Well, that is no excuse to miss the Bucharest International Marathon, an awesome photography opportunity. It was the 5th edition, but the first time for me: is a big event, it has good athletes, like this group that was leading the race, or like the guy who followed them or the first girl:

Along with the athletes, many other people participated, in fact there were more races at the same time: the marathon, the half-marathon, the relay-marathon, the disabled people race and the popular cross:

And everybody was “running”, even those you would have expected the less:

Japanese Night, Tea & Coffee Festival

With a busy schedule, I managed to attend only the Japanese night at the Tea & Coffee Festival, which is taking place the whole week. The program started with a clothing demonstration about wearing a yukata:

Then it got more serious, moved to a kimono:

Ather the clothes, it was the time for a tea ceremony:

The event closed with some taiko play:

Kids at the opera

At the Korean concert I saw those kids, watching the opera songs, can’t say how much they enjoyed it.

Korean princess

For the Republic of Korea a somewhat unexpected show happened yesterday at the Romanian Athenaeum in Bucharest: Korean artists singing opera. Voices aside (they were great), from a visual point of view the soprano Kim Hanna was a highlight, she looked and acted like an (European) princess.

The show was completed with another soprano, a baritone, two tenors and a piano player, all singing Italian and French opera and a few Korean songs.

Bucharest in black and white 2012

Last year I had a picture there, this year one of my pics was selected again for the “Bucharest in black and white” (Bucureștiul în alb și negru) photo exhibition, which should open on October 17 at Cărturești, near Piața Romană. It was taken earlier this year at Femei pe Mătăsari.

Again, the same rule is for the image format, 4:3, which I wonder about, it is the image format for compact cameras: is one of the exhibition heavyweights too lazy to crop his pictures or is an opening for newbies still using compacts? (a newbie may not know how to crop, while you have better expectation from someone with a bigger camera).

Purple haze tutorial

iphone 5I rarely cross-post things from one of my blogs to another, but now my sarcastic howto edit photos for an iPhone 5 look is somewhat on-topic here, so if you want to make a bit of fun about the defective iPhone camera while learning a tiny bit of GIMP editing, go read it.

Jazz interactions

Assisting to a jazz concert (the Jack DeJohnette Group, with an opening by Iordache and his band), I understood is less visually appealing compared with, for example, a metal concert (my fave), both as lighting, costumes, accessories, stage play (also, my placement, as a mere spectator in the crowd was limiting), so I decided to channel my attention to interactions on the stage.

ASE ball still up

Yesterday a new university year started for students across the country. ASE, standing for the University of Economic Studies is one of the big traditional universities in Bucharest, famous for the large percentage of female students. It is also knows for an urban legend: one of its buildings has a ball shaped roof and the legend say it will fall-off when a virgin (implied, female virgin) will pass by it.

Note: myself, I graduated long ago at UPB, the engineering university, where is no ball problem (if you know what I mean…)

Two on a bike

Besides SkirtBike, another event at BikeFest was the “two on a bike” race, here teams of two people riding the same bike went head to head in a competition.

SkirtBike

Last week-end the Izvor park in Bucharest hosted the BikeFest festival, which had as one of its events the fourth edition of SkirtBike (autumn edition), where women are invited to take part with a bicycle while wearing a skirt (preferably vintage) and maybe high heels.

Halfway

The first half of the Wiki Loves Monuments 2012 is done: photo submission ended, not is the time for the second half, jury enters the action to select the winners.

So far it exceeded the expectations, in Romania we collected over 8750 images from about 270 participants, a significant increase from around 5800 images in the previous year. The international contest is also well, the grand total is over 360000 images and still counting (some imports are undergoing), more than double compared with the previous year.

Some serious ass kicking happened!
