Shifting Sands + Monarchy @ Coyote

Yesterday Coyote Cafe in Bucharest hosted a metal concert, and while I missed the first band, Redox, I still managed to take pictures of the other two (in the order of appearance), Shifting Sands and Monarchy:

Alternative 4 / Duncan Patterson

Yesterday Kulturhaus in Bucharest hosted a concert with Alternative 4, the new band formed by Duncan Patterson, who you may know for his activity back in Anathema:

Light painting the city for Chrstmas

If the first time was a quick work with hand held camera, this time, despite the atrocious freezing cold the pics came, I think, a bit better.

Noblesse by Ducessa

At Casa Capșa in Bucharest, a new fashion house named Ducessa presented their first collection, Noblesse, something classic, glamourous, vintage:

Christmas lights for 2011

Every year I am more and more disappointed with the Christmas light in Bucharest, surely the mayor is doing a bad job with this. For this year they are monotonous, boring and cheap, unable to impress. It may be his incompetence or the economic downturn, maybe a bit from both.

Looking to the sun

Is not a secret I prefer pictures with people in them, so when shooting the sunset on the IOR park I had to include people too:

Sunset on IOR

Unlike some other years, yesterday on the national day, December 1st, I didn’t shoot the military parade, make love, not war, you know… sat at home and near the sunset walked a little in the park: water, sun, birds… it was peaceful.

The Gobal Battle Of the Bands (GBOB) 2011

Near the end of the last week at Arenele Romane in Bucharest there was a big music event: The Global Battle Of the Bands, or shortly GBOB, where a bunch of bands came to sing, gain exposure and maybe “hit the jackpot”. I attended it only on the semifinals, Thursday and Friday, not also Saturday on the finals, when the bands were the same (well, a subset of), the light better but the placement worse (having to fight for the photo pit with a TV crew, which had priority).

Abigail website up

Remember my project with Abigail? The CD cover was only part of it, now the second part is public, their website is up and the members page is populated with my pics. Yay!

Masca at the subway

Around the Bucharest subway anniversary, Masca Theatre organized a show in the middle of the Unirii 1 station (this was the very first subway station in Bucharest):

…to boldly go where no man has gone before

No, is not the bridge of starship USS Enterprise and there is no captain Picard around, this is the dispatch center of the Bucharest subway, it was open to the public Saturday at the 32 years anniversary, since the first station was opened.

Sweet testing

Today I picked my lens (“the normalizer”, if you are curious which one) from the shop, where it was taken for calibration. The light at the shop was not good enough, so I postponed any serious testing for the following day, but on my way home I passed by this window, so I had to take a “test” (night shot, hand held camera, trough a glass window):

Tides from Nebula

Again with the help of my friends from StudioRock.ro I attended a concert, this time it was Tides from Nebula and it happened at Kulturhaus in Bucharest. The light was awful (why do they have such awful lights in pub and club concerts?) and the place was crowded with about 8 photographers, so I did what I could:

Subway tango

It happened yesterday at the Unirii 1 subway station and it was kind of like a flash mob: they plugged the sound system, danced for about 10-15 minutes and then went away. Passengers admired them, took photos and a few of them even joined the dance.

Night over Piata Universitatii

From the height of the International Hotel at a fashion show I discovered a beautiful view of the night over the Bucharest city center:
