Waiting for sakura

Even if I expect it to be a failure, I can’t stop following the cherry blossom season and take the best pictures I can, even if they are not the pictures I wanted. And this season is now, so I started on Friday, when, before the Easter mini-holiday I had a short day at work, by then they were ready but still not in flower:

Then I returned on Saturday, when the first flower started to show, not enough but a little step forward:
sakura

And again on Sunday, when it was really close:
sakura

But after that the weather changed, Monday was dark and cold, under an imminent rain, Tuesday it rained all day and today is a bit better, still not hot enough. Not sure If this weather change is bad, ruining the season or will help me keeping the flowers until the next week-end. We’ll see.

Sakura FAIL

Yoshiro cherry trees (染井吉野) ready to blossom, probably in a couple of days, and yet another FAIL for me, I am caught on the wrong foot and it looks like yet another time I will miss the opportunity of getting the photos that scream in my head for years and come, at best, with some soulless photos, just like the last year

Spring in the city

Saturday I was out in the city for a photojournalism project (more about it next week) and passed near the Cismigiu Park and noticed how the spring has come: not only short, transparent skirts but also flowers and bees. Stopped for a short while (couldn’t let the rest of the team wait for me) and took a shoot of the later.

Spring again

I think is the time to take a pause from echoing the last photoshot, otherwise people will start labelling me as “obsessed” or something, so let’s take a look at the spring which is trying to settle (it won’t be easy, the forecast says “light snow” for tonight)

Video: Mărțișoare at MTR

In addition to taking photos at the Marțișor Fair at the Peasant Museum (Muzeul Țăranului Român, MTR) I also dis a short, crappy, video:

…have a bit a patience, a better Marțișor will come later today 😀

Triumph? not so fast Buster…

A few weeks ago (almost one month ago!) I though I blew my last chance to get a good (but cliché) photo with snowdrops and snow but many things happened since then: snow and freezing cold, huge snow and so on. However, last week-end it looked like the spring finally triumphed and I got my snowdrops cliché:

snowdrops /ghiocei

It was warm and sunny and the little resilient managed to find their way out:
snowdrops /ghiocei snowdrops /ghiocei

My joy was premature, this morning the winter was in full swing again, the place of my little snowdrops went from that to that (today’s photo are a bit rushed, I was already late for work):
snowdrops /ghiocei snowdrops /ghiocei

And the little guys are fighting and still holding:

Who will win in the end? Place your bets…

Spring’s announcers

A week ago when the weather was warm and nice and I thought the winter is gone for good I noticed in my garden some snowdrops (ghiocei) preparing to blossom and, as cliché as it is, I wanted to take a photo, as the message is strong, they are the first flowers of the year, the triumph of live over death, spring over winter.

With a full time work, at 7:30 in the morning when I leave home is not enough light and at 19-19:30 in the evening when I get back, it it already pitch black for a couple of hours already… yeah, that’s one of the ugliest parts of the winter, so my only chance was to wait for the week-end, hoping also for a ray of light, to make the photos more lively.

Fast forward to Saturday: the sky was cloudy, dark and depressing, not the atmosphere I wanted to illustrate the triumph of spring… so postponed one more day. Sunday morning, no luck either: the same dark, heavy clouds, the same depressing atmosphere. However, the ground was covered with some icy dust, a lame snow attempt, so I got the camera out for some photos, even if the story was different than the plan in my head. It still was a good story, about the winter who does not give-up easily:

snowdrops/ghiocei

Much to my surprise, today (Monday) morning when I opened the door was hit with a huge surprise: everything was white, a full winter is back. Of course my snowdrop flowers were covered fully in snow and of course it was too early in the morning, to dark to take a contrasting photos about how winter has won one more battle.

Now waiting for the next week-end, wondering which surprise will bring, what story will be told, what photos to be taken…

Orange flower

Too much girl portraits lately? How about interrupting for a flower close-up? Yes, it is also from my garden and I don’t know its name…

Update: the high resolution of the photo(s) here were lost in an unfortunate accident(human error made by be) and a bit later the only copy remaining (resized for web use, hosted on flickr) was deleted by the yahoo bastards. I am very sad about the lost content, but is out of my control. My only hope is I will be able to replace them with more and better shots.

Lilac Lucky Charms

A short pause from the beautiful girl portraits for some beautiful flowers: purple lilac.

When I was a kid, we used to vandalize the lilac flowers, searching for "lucky charms": flowers with a non-standard number of petals, anything else than 4, be it less or more.

Purple Lilac from my Garden

And it happens a lot to find such "lucky" lilac flowers, but I think the tree from my garden is a mutant or something, you can find flowers with 3, 5, 6, 7 or even 8 petals.

And no, they are not lucky…

Fruity blossom

A short pause from posting photos of beautiful and sometime nasty girls for some other beautiful things, like spring blossom. Today is all about fruits: apples, quince and strawberries. Yummmy….

I am not afraid that be bar would be raised too much, I have some really beautiful portraits still awaiting to be posted…

SMAEB + 4tuning – eye candy for everybody

I have in mind a quote which is so obvious that a lot of people should said it already "a car show is for a photographer just like a candy store for a child"

4tuning 2009: Babes and Cars 4tuning 2009: Babes and Cars

So the candy store cam to me this spring in the form of the 2009 edition of both the Bikes Salon SMAEB and the car tuning salon 4tuning, something I couldn’t miss, no matter what.

4tuning 2009: Babes and Cars 4tuning 2009: Babes and Cars 4tuning 2009: Babes and Cars

I took effectively tons of photos (thousands), like in this post general shots of the show but more will come when I get to process them: a lot of beautiful booth babes, some portraits, a number of panty shots and a few surprises.

4tuning 2009: Babes and Cars SMAEB 2009: Babes an Bikes

I am not much into cars or bikes, so the machines are only [at most] a secondary element in my pictures, so if you are searching for cars, maybe this is not the best place to look at.

4tuning 2009: Babes and Cars 4tuning 2009: Babes and Cars 4tuning 2009: Babes and Cars

On a technical side, I attended the fairs both Saturday and Sunday but tried something: one day shooting with a zoom lens (28-300mm) and a lot of flash (my first massive use of flash ever) and the other day used a 50mm prime and almost no flash. Being lazy, I still prefer to use the zoom lens.

4tuning 2009: Babes and Cars SMAEB 2009: Babes an Bikes

The hardest part was, as always is the case for me, the selection. I just find awfully hard to reject photos, even when they have visible defects, I still find a thing or two what I like. This is my largest weakness as a photographer.

So stay ready, more to come…

Forget-me-not. Blue.

Blue Forget-me-not are one of my favourite flowers, no wonder I can’t stop my camera when viewing some…

Magnolias

Is relatively easy for me to shoot white magnolias, since there is (still) one in my garden, so I have a lot of shots with its flowers:

White Magnolia and More

But I like better the pink ones, so I had to search the city:

Senbonzakura Kageyoshi

What can I say more? Those are yoshiro cherry trees (染井吉野) in full blossom in the "Japanese Garden" from the Herastrau Park in Bucharest. Ah, there is something more to say: it was a warm day and the bees were flying from flower to flower. So Chire, Senbonzakura Kageyoshi.

I think is the time to start unleashing the blossoming trees of the spring… Chire, Senbonzakura Kageyoshi!
