Cherry blossom at Muzeul Satului

It looks like I did everything at Flowers Day (Florii) in the Village Museum (Muzeul Satului), from glamourous shoots, to traditional masters interviews, to children portraiture to fun photos and cat photos (yes, I did that too), except the very thing I was there in the first place: cherry blossom pictures. Wrong! I did that too 🙂

And as it was the tulips season, I did also tulip pictures:

Little ones at Florii in Muzeul Satului

Traditional masters? Rural glamour? Of course! But there were also a lot of little ones, both in the show and the audience:

Tradition masters

Sunday was Flowers Day (Florii), the last Sunday before the Easter and the Village Museum (Muzeul Satului) in Bucharest hosted a big event, with traditional art, music, spectacles and such. Being a really beautiful spring day, I couldn’t resist and was there with the camera in my hand: rustic houses, people in traditional costumes and blossoming cherry trees… what you can ask for more? (wait the next couple of posts for more…)

There I meet Gheorghe Ciobanu, an amazing guy: he is a peasant naive painter who talk with passion about his art, we had a short but delightful conversation about the purpose of art, he also gave me hid “internet number”, where I can see a gallery with his works. Recommended.

He had there a lot of idyllic paintings about nature, flowers, spirituality, village life and so on. When leaving, I saw on a fence a lot of paintings with strong sexual connotations, also part of the traditional rural live, I guess. I love his guy and his work (and there is more such stuff on his website.

Another highlight of an interesting person I meet there is Veturia Suciu, an old lady who does sewing. Seeing my photo camera she asked from which TV station am I, we talked a bit, she told be about her being at sunset and how is she would have a sunrise would be able to create more.

“Garage” shooting in Herastrau

Sunday in the park we didn’t shoot only the cute dog, we took advantage of one of us who came with his fiancé, Bianca, so we also put her to “work” as a model. She did quite a nice job:

At some point I almost modelled myself, when I climbed to a tree branch over the lake to show her a posture… too bad she was not comfortable on that branch… probably I am a bit more unconscious 😀

Hucker

Sunday in Herăstrau Park with a group of other photographers we had a joyful company: Hucker, an English cocker spaniel, who is very energetic: he ran a lot wore a dandelions crown and even tried a difficult pose:

Spring at the golden hour

I was in the park at the golden hour for something unrelated, wanted to check the tree blossom status, but having the tele lens on the camera (for flowers), when it happened to see interesting human poses in the distance… I shoot.

Sakura tracking

The past week was not friendly for photography and my schedule was a bit busy, so only yesterday on my route for another event I got the opportunity for a short detour in the Herastrau park to check the tree blossom state and I liked what I saw, quite some beauties in that near-sunset time:

As for the exact Japanese cherry trees, they are not ready yet, needing a few more sunny, warm days, I will keep my eyes on them:

Sakura tracing

Is that time of the year again, the spring has come, trees are blossoming… photography fever. Saturday evening when passing through the Cismigiu Park (on my way to the Earth Hour event) noticed the very first blossom of the year, it was far away on the top of the tree and it was already dark, but I had enough gear on me to solve take some pics:

Sunday morning I had again some business in the city center and noticed a lot more trees in blossom, a shy beginning, but sakura time is here, definitely.

Sprin in full force: trees, flowers, people:

Of course, the weather became uglier and now is a little setback, but it will delay only a few days.

Crocus again

Is that time of the year again, when the spring tries to establish and the first flowers appear, time for crocus, the spring’s announcers… too bad the day was fugly: cold, cloudy and trying to rain and too bad my camera has some issues (after ~85.000 frames the shutter button has problems triggering, I don’t have the balls yet to part away with it for a repair) and too bad the dogs damaged the flowers in my garden, a visit to the park was what I had to do.

Paștele Cailor at Tîrgoviște

I was familiar with the expression “PaÈ™tele Cailor”, meaning “Horse’s Easter”, as a date when nothing will happen (as in, for example, I will such Bill Gates dick at Horses Easter) and also knew a couple of explanations for it. This year I learned another one in a photography trip with Orasul.ro: is a festivity of the small Bulgarian community in the City of TîrgoviÈ™te, happening after the winter when the horsed are taken out for the first time. It is also called “TudoriÈ›a”.

So together with a bunch of other photographers I attended the event this year, which, of course was pretty much about horses:

pastele cailor/tudorita pastele cailor/tudorita

And it was also about the people in that Bulgarian community and their traditions:
pastele cailor/tudorita pastele cailor/tudorita

And, as we are in Balkans, it was also about food (don’t remember the name of those small breads decorated with pepper seeds):
pastele cailor/tudorita pastele cailor/tudorita

And of course it was about contests, to see who has the best horses and who is the best driver:
pastele cailor/tudorita pastele cailor/tudorita

And it was a lot about local divas, sitting and smiling in the carts, in their pretty and colorful costumes, for all of us to admire:
pastele cailor/tudorita pastele cailor/tudorita

And of course it was a festivity for the kids to enjoy (“give me the camera to take a picture to daddy” said the little princess):
pastele cailor/tudorita pastele cailor/tudorita

And not last, it was a festivity for us, the photographers, who were there in great numbers trying to capture everything:
pastele cailor/tudorita pastele cailor/tudorita

And on top of all, it was a really beautiful hot and sunny spring day, a pleasure to be outside.

Here comes the rain again

This endless rain is sickening, the lack of sun is ruining all the expected beauty of the spring and photography plans, I don’t know mow much of it I can take any more… fortunately Mino, a brave soul dared to stick it into rain’s face and go for an outdoors photo session

rain

Umbrellas, the last flowers of the spring, that was what we played with before getting to wet:
rain rain

And for the finale, we find an empty place (who’s in the park in a rainy spring evening?), took cover from the rain and played a bit more:
rain rain

I think she sacrificed a bit on the art’s altar, and didn’t recovered fully from the cold caught in this rain. Get well Mino!

Mărțișoare at the subway. Or me on the border of hypocrisy

I did it again, despite being at times very vocal against this tradition, I joined Orasul.ro for a Mărțisor photo event at the Uniri subway station. Take it as a photojournalism exercise.

martisoare

People used the opportunity to shoot the event, the people around and the subway station overall (normally you are not allowed to shoot there).
martisoare

And of course to have some fun – that is, or should be, the purpose of any community action.
martisoare

If you don’t know, the MărÈ›iÈ™or tradition suppose the men give to the women some trinkets put on a red and white string, so that was our pretense. Most of them smiled and accepted, while some avoided us, suspecting we just try to hit on them.

Rebirth?

They say the spring will come, they say there will be good, they say the sun will shine. I am skeptical. The winter seems to never end.

Love under the blossoming trees

Warm spring evening in the Japanese Garden of Herastrau Park in Bucharest: the pink trees are in full blossom and under them young couples are carried away by the season, nature beauty and their love.

This couple is hugging like there’s no tomorrow:

love and blossom

This one is enjoying comfort:
love and blossom

And this one is joyful:
love and blossom

Well, what’s your stance on life? I for one would like to feel joy and be comfortable, but I know there is no tomorrow.

The spring sun

The sun in spring is nice and much awaited (of course, when the rain does not destroy everything) and even if your camera manual say is dangerous to direct the lenses directly to the sunlight, so can’t abstain from doing so and trying some dramatic backlit pictures.
