From my garden

I still have a garden (long ago used to post more pictures from it, flowers, plants, insects and such) but now live away from it (is for sale, BTW), so such pics are much rarer (and, arguably, I matured a bit as a photographer and that influenced my themes). Today I visited it, and knowing at this time snowdrops should be in full flower, I planned to pick some to give. Unfortunately, event there are a lot of them, my snowdrops are not tall, hard to carry, to offer and keep, so I am afraid for the moment she has to keep the photos and I have to go to the market for real flowers.

Solitude

Some people go to watch the sakura blossom in groups, throwing real parties there (that’s called “hanami”), some go in couples to have romantic moments and some others go by themselves, enjoying the solitude in the beautiful landscape.

Run to me

Beside admiring the flowers, a beautiful evening in the park is also a good time to have fun: run, jump, sing, smile, laugh.

Charmed

She said she was charmed by the beautiful flowers which brought her is a dreamy state, it is probably so since the blossom was beautiful and the light almost perfect.

Hanami

Yesterday the Japanese cherry tree blossom (sakura) was probably at its best for this season in Bucharest: lots of flowers, beautiful sunlight, warm weather – anything you wanted from it.

And if everything was perfect, people were there watching and enjoying (Hanami is the traditional Japanese custom of viewing the tree blossom).

Duel?

I don’t know if those two couples are in a duel for who’s love is bigger or pain envy or even just laziness or carelessness. But those guys sit like watching a movie or something. What can I say? Enjoy the view!

Sakura kiss

I pretty much missed the Sakura season this year: the Japanese cherry trees are in full blossom, the weather is ugly, the light bad and me, knowing the weather forecast, have not arranged anything… what can I do for now is take a few shots of random strangers and hope the apple trees will blossom under better circumstances.

The spring of love

Spring is here if full power, even if the last few days were a bit cold, everything is blossoming: from the little flowers in the grass to the trees. And in those conditions, of course the love birds have to do their thing. And of course the photographer has to do his thing 😀 Problem?

Mucenici

I am a vocal atheist, but at the same time I know a bit about religious traditions around (you can’t be an atheist without being familiar with the religious dogma) and I enjoy some of the traditional food (does it make me a hypocrite?)

Mucenici or Măcinici is a traditional for for the Christian-Orthodox holiday celebrating the 40 martyrs of Sebaste with takes place on 9 March. Is a dessert of two sorts: in Muntenia (south) is like a soup of “8” shaped little pasta, sweetened and traditionally flavoured with cinnamon and walnuts, in modern times we also add for flavour rum essence and lemon or orange peels. In Moldova (north-west), again some “8” shaped bigger dough pieces, baked in the oven, then dipped in honey syrup and flavored with walnuts (those are also called “Saints”)

This year I only had the southern sort, the soup. The pasta was bought from the store, the rest is home-made. Hopefully for the next year I will have some photos with the other one too.

Another tradition for this holiday is to celebrate all the saints, so if there were 40 martyrs dying… you have to drink 40 glasses of wine, one for each saint. Not bad… but way more than I can handle 🙂

And there is yet another tradition: if your name don’t have a patron saint (your given name is not the same as the name of a saint officially celebrated in the religious calendar), then 9 March is your name day. Another opportunity to celebrate, I guess…

Spring/Snowdrops

After I bored everybody with my Indian adventures, is probably the time to breath a bit and celebrate the spring – those little fellows, snowdrops from my garden, appeared a couple of months ago, in the middle of the winter, but the snow buried them. Now they are alive and kicking (well, not exactly those, the flowers in the image were cut and offered as a present, but there are some more in the garden).

Martisor 2012

With the winter gone (at least in theory), 1st of March is the Romanian holiday of Mărțișor when men are expected to buy shiny trinkets, put then on a red-and-white string and offer as presents to all women around.

Vamă

This year I spent my May Day holiday with a few friends in Vamă, which is pretty much a Romanian tradition. Unfortunately the weather was totally uncooperative, my mood not the best and didn’t have the full gear (is not the place for that). Overall, it was an experience:

The Easter Bunny

The rule of this photography blog is to post pictures made by myself… today is a rare exception, with pictures of myself… Sunday, the Easter day, I was out in the city with a few photographer friends, I was prepared having with me a pair of bunny ears and when the gang saw them, they dared me to wear the ears trough the city and… I did so 🙂 Here are some pics taken by them:

Flori Jianu saw the “sexy bunny”:

Alin Dima the “cute one”:

Painted eggs / me bad atheist?

Thursday before the Orthodox Easter, is the day when traditionally people paint the eggs for Easter around here. I am not sure if this makes me a bad atheist, but I am posting a picture with some painted eggs from the flowers day festival this year. Shoot me 🙂

Cats? Let’s try chickens!

I know I kind of promised cat photos, so I had to execute… good luck finding this hidden guy 🙂

But I think I like way better this chicken picture, so I’ll throw it in the mix too:
