Happy Easter!

I am no religious person (by the contrary!) but surely I can enjoy a holiday: a free day from work and good food, that’s not something to pass 😀 And if I kind of celebrate the Easter, I should probably join it’s spirit… not with candles, prayers, priests or shit like that but with bunnies! Here’s a recently took picture of bunnies, enjoy 🙂

Note: in Romania the Easter is celebrated by the christian orthodox calendar and this year it takes place one week after the catholic holiday.

Shifting Sands + Monarchy @ Coyote

Yesterday Coyote Cafe in Bucharest hosted a metal concert, and while I missed the first band, Redox, I still managed to take pictures of the other two (in the order of appearance), Shifting Sands and Monarchy:

Alternative 4 / Duncan Patterson

Yesterday Kulturhaus in Bucharest hosted a concert with Alternative 4, the new band formed by Duncan Patterson, who you may know for his activity back in Anathema:

The Gobal Battle Of the Bands (GBOB) 2011

Near the end of the last week at Arenele Romane in Bucharest there was a big music event: The Global Battle Of the Bands, or shortly GBOB, where a bunch of bands came to sing, gain exposure and maybe “hit the jackpot”. I attended it only on the semifinals, Thursday and Friday, not also Saturday on the finals, when the bands were the same (well, a subset of), the light better but the placement worse (having to fight for the photo pit with a TV crew, which had priority).

Abigail website up

Remember my project with Abigail? The CD cover was only part of it, now the second part is public, their website is up and the members page is populated with my pics. Yay!

Tides from Nebula

Again with the help of my friends from StudioRock.ro I attended a concert, this time it was Tides from Nebula and it happened at Kulturhaus in Bucharest. The light was awful (why do they have such awful lights in pub and club concerts?) and the place was crowded with about 8 photographers, so I did what I could:

L.O.S.T. + DinUmbra + Apa Sambetii @ Elephant

Yesterday evening it was another metal night at Elephant Pub, in the old city of Bucharest:

metal

The concert opened with Apa Sambetii, which is probably the youngest of the 3 bands what were performing, but they were very vivid, with a lot of action on the stage:

DinUmbra followed, and for their performance I had to split the “hunting grounds” with another photographer, also using ultra-wide lenses, so this part were quite difficult for both of us:

The last, but not the least, was L.O.S.T., they were the main attraction and the best known band of the three. And it shows, they have stage experience:

At the end the audience was happy and wishing the show continued. Well, everything which has a start, also has an end, so the concert ended a bit over midnight:

Abigail CD cover

Remember the project I was worked on with Abigail? It started to come into fruition, they have now a sleeve for their It Is The Nidht I Fear CD, with the photo I made in that session on the back side (the band photo):

J-rock cosplay

Nijikon was a good opportunity to meet old friends, to make new ones, and with so many friends around and costumes ready, we had to take photos around the convention, as those where Yume is cosplaying her favorite J-rocker, Ruki from The Gazette:

It Is The Night I Fear

I spent another night with Abigail. And I fear it? No! It Is The Night I Fear is the name of the EP they launched yesterday evening at Elephant Pub in Bucharest, which they filed with doom metal and, of, course, fans. Grooooowl!!!

My night with Abigail

If you expect a hot, steamy, story, you will get disappointed, Abigail is a doom metal band and I helped them with a photography project, doing some, obviously, gloomy, dark pictures (wait for their upcoming website) in an old building which used to be the royal stables before WW2 and the secret police dungeon during the communist regime:

And after that, they went to the studio to repeat a bit for their upcoming concert on Tuesday, I joined them, assisted and even took a few pictures. Gloomy can be fun 😀

Bad blood? Flamenco!

For the last week-end of the Bucharest Days for 2011, on the stage on Lipscani street they had a Spanish group, named Malasangre5 (is this the 5 bad bloods? they were only 4…) singing and dancing flamenco, and they were not bad at all:

Enescu Festival, 2011

Yesterday I managed at last to attend the Enescu Festival, which happend in the very center of Bucharest, and listen to some high quality classical music performed by talented musicians, in an open-air concert (Piata Revolutiei, in front of Ateneul Roman), it was some well spent time:

ARTmania 2011: the music

This year I attended ARTmania as a photographer sent by Studio Rock, so with the press pass I had better access to take my photos. And as a metal festival is mostly about the music, this first post will be about the music (some other stuff will follow), there are the bands:
