This was an unexpected attraction for Bucharest Days: a couple of geishas walking around on stilts and entertaining the audience. Yeah, their list of words, expressions and jokes was limited, but they were quite enthusiastic.

Sometime in September is the celebration of Bucharest Days, so this year for almost a full month (26 August – 18 September) there are supposed to happen various things in the Old City, as this is how the event is called this year, “Old City Days”. Being there for Wikipedia photo hunting I noticed the fair and the concert scene, so when done I returned for a bit of festival.

The nights in Vama Veche are really long and hard so the morning are, obviously, even harder.

I reported about music and people what else is next? The streets, of course:

So there is a music (metal) festival in the city, there also have to be people too, some of them for the event, some not. Capturing them is a must for the photographer:

This year I attended ARTmania as a photographer sent by Studio Rock, so with the press pass I had better access to take my photos. And as a metal festival is mostly about the music, this first post will be about the music (some other stuff will follow), there are the bands:

On Tuesday 21 June 2011 six photographers were assigned different areas of the City to photograph. Some used tripods, some went hand held, one set up a 5 x 4.
All were instructed to keep to public land and photograph the area as they would on a normal day. The event aimed to test the policing of public and private space by private security firms and their reaction to photographers.
All six photographers were stopped on at least one occasion. Three encounters led to police action.
This is what happened.

Saturday I was invited to take pictures at the graduation ceremony of the Technical Military Academy in Bucharest, class of 2011. Keep in mind, they are not only officers, they are also engineers (specialised in various fields, from rocketry to computers and intelligence)… so they will not only kick your butt, but your brains too… if need be.

These days the city is hosting the Bucharest Music Film Festival right in the city center, at Piața Revoluției, in front of the Atheneum and the National Art Museum. As the name says, the main feature is classical music:

One interesting (and photogenic) thing at the “urban festival” on Mătăsari street was the people dancing tango on the street and wearing street clothes. Not many, but not very few either.

With the history and tradition of the Mătăsari street, one linked with sex and prostitution, having an “urban festival” called “at women on Mătăsari” (“la femei pe Mătăsari”) was challenging, and it gathered, as expected, a bunch of people considering themselves “cool” and “edgy”.

After much debates and delays, the Basarab passage in Bucharest opened at last! …good opportunity for the current mayor to shamelessly assume the merits, but I digress, this is not a politics blog, we are here to share some photos from the passage opening.

Not totally a coincidence of me posting about a marionette play today on Children’s Day, but it was a spectacle for everyone. Last week I attended at UNATC a Little Prince spectacle.
