The Gallery from the Gallery

The Gallery from the Gallery (Romanian: Galeria din Galerie) is the name of a photo exhibition a fellow photographer from the community just opened. It is about the Bucharest subway and the pictures are exposed in the Unirii 1 station.

subway

The rest of us used the opportunity, since taking photos in the subway is usually not allowed, to shoot there (you need an approval from the management, otherwise the security will ask you to stop).

Self modelling

If the photographers are busy chasing some falling leaves, what are those girls supposed to to? They take pictures one to each other. Stupid photographers!

Calendar 2013

As a joint project with Carmen, we made a desk calendar for 2013, it features photos from both of us put in some random order (you’ll have to guess who is the author for each).

calendar 2013
The printed version is a premium item, being hand-signed by each of us and is not for sale, but those who like it, can have a copy (sorry for linking this way, is a big ZIP file containing a bunch of high-quality PDFs).
And since a fellow photographer asked for this, I’am also making available my calendar design, as an archive of blank PDFs, with no pictures and no names, ready to receive photos and names. It is made at the size required the the printing shop we used: 220 x 100 mm with 2 mm bleeds at the edges.

Update: here’s a tutorial for making your own Inkscape calendar layout design

Luxury photography

Hunting for my latest batch of photos for the Wiki Loves Monuments photo contest, I encountered this building, which is not a historical monument, but still an interesting sight. Ans you can probably see is a former shop, which had a “FOTO LUX” sign, if not obvious, that is Romanian for “Luxury Photography”. Think of the past glory of this place…

Let’s get out in Bucharest, celebrate with WLM

Those days, 13-16 September 2012, is the celebration of Bucharest, called “Bucharest Days”, 553 years of known existence. Is a very good opportunity for us to get out in the street, take photos with some historical monuments and put them in the Wiki Loves Monuments photography contest.

Photo session… with the phone

Every model is proud to have her image taken by a skilled photographer. The two had their photo session with the phone on Lipscani and it took maybe half an hour, if not even more. I’m curious to see the result.

Wiki, Wiki, Wiki

In the last few days I was silent, with no pics posted here, that’s because I was busy with the Wikipedia photography contest, uploading my own pictures (as I am a member of the national jury, my photos won’t run for any prize, just enrich Wikipedia and illustrate the historical monuments in Romania).
Most of my picts are about cave churches in the Argeș county, medieval fortified monasteries in the Sibiu county, cave sites in the Buzău county, but there is also some Brâncovenian architecture and some other things (Sighișoara, wooden churches and such).
Hopefully while the campaign last, until the end of the month, I will be able to take and upload a few more, but don’t expect the number increase to be dramatic, currently I am at the count of 365 images, which gave my 15 minutes of fame (I briefly was one of the 10 top world uploaders) and raised the Romanian quote close to 1000 pictures (hopefully, we will reach this milestone later today, in less than one week after the competition started).
I did my share and will work more on this until the end, how about you? Come and take part of the fun! wiki loves monuments

Freeze in the summer hot

Last Friday in the very center of Bucharest, on the fence of the Bucharest Museum (very close to Piața Universității) opened a new photo exhibition I am part of: Freeze in the summer hot (Ger in arșita verii). It will be open for a couple of weeks in the street, for anyone to see, it contains black and white winter photos, the refreshing thing to see in one of the hottest summers I remember:

Oltenian bride

It seems like the wedding photographers in Târgu Jiu have as one of the favorite places for their “artistic” session the walking area in the center of the city, perhaps they are bored by the cliche of using Brâncuși’s Kiss Gate.

BIAS 2012: the audience

Thousands of people came to see the Bucharest International Air Show and, at least in the eye of a people photographer, they offered on the ground a spectacle just as good as the one in the sky.

Basescu

Later today the communist coalition controlling the government and the parliament will move to impeach the democratically elected president, Traian Basescu. He will be suspended from his function until a national referendum.
I think this particular impeachment is a bad thing for a number of reasons, I think he was the best post-revolutionary president, but this does not means much, since the others were absolutely awful, he did a lot of mistakes and bad things, but at least under his mandate also happened positive things like the country had at least an independence of powers in the state (legislative, executive, justice), the press was free (unlike the previous regime) and we had, for the first time in history a formal condemnation of the former communist dictatorship (while that is not much, is infinitely more than the previous regimes).
So I am not a fan of the president, but I think for the moment he is the best alternative. This slogan from yesterday’s meeting at Piața Revoluției are very close to my own position “I don’t cry for Basescu, I cry for the rule of law and constitutional order”.
