Organized by the Danaart Gallery the “Ipostaze Urbane – Culoare” (“Urban Stances – Color”) photo exhibition is open at the Dristor 1 subway station in Bucharest until of the end of the week. Myself, I have two pictures there, one is a night view of the Prater park in Vienna and the other is a sunset over the city of Targu-Jiu.

Macro?

I wonder two things about this picture, first if that camera has a macro mode and second if that mode is activated.

The photographer, the swan and the girl

He has a camera, no matter is on a phone, he is a photographer. He has a model, he is a pro. The swan is bonus.

Interview

Our photoclub, Asociația Bucureștiul meu drag (that’s ‘My beloved Bucharest Association’ in English) has a magazine published online. In the last edition, March 2013, I was invited to contribute with an interview and some photos, they can be read starting from page 166 in either the PDF or Flash version. It was a honor to be there with a large piece (I had some pics in previous editions too).

Advertising: event photography

If so far I flirted with event photography, this year I am getting serious in this, showing how it can be done in a professional manner. From the various types of events, from corporate to anniversaries and ceremonies, the wedding are the most important and their season is closing fast, clients should waste no time in booking the services, as soon many photographers will be fully loaded. Preparing for this year’s season, I launched a few weeks ago an event photography website targeting weddings, baptisms, anniversaries, corporate events, spectacles and such. There is also this set of posters, sampling some of my works and capabilities.

Dragobetele sărută fetele

“Dragobetele sărută fetele” is Romanian for “Dragobete kisses the girls”, where Dragobete is our local fertility holiday, pretty much alike Valentine’s Day or Lupercalia, now used as a celebration of love. And for this holiday, there is a photo exhibition, now at the second edition, hosted by the Village Museum in Bucharest.

dragobete

The tradition foe every exhibition opening is to serve the visitors some food ad drinks, the choice for food was interesting: bacon, onions and bread. I am not sure how the onions are related to kissing, you eat them before or after.

As for myself, I had two pictures accepted, one made last spring in the Herastrau Park, the other in the summer on the beach at 2 Mai.

Event photography portfolio website

It wasn’t planned, just happened to be ready now, but is a cute coincidence to launch my event photography portfolio website on the Valentine’s Day. Maybe is a sign 🙂 But the important thing is, if you need event photography (be it a wedding, an anniversary, corporate event, spectacle or something else), I am open for commission. For the 2013 wedding season start now, is no much time left until the summer!

Black and white reloaded

When I visited the Sector 6 (that’s a district in Bucharest) city hall, I had the opportunity to see the photos from the Bucharest in black and white photo exhibition again. For a while our photos will make more lively the cold walls of this public administration building. Probably photos in colors would do a better job with this, but black and white was the theme.

To the subway

Together with a good number of photographers from the “Asociația Bucureștiul meu drag”, I am part of the group exhibition that opened yesterday evening in one of the most active subway stations in Bucharest, Piața Unirii 1. The theme is our city and the pictures will stay there for all of you too see for a month and a half. Even from the first day many heads were turning.

I know I was expected to have a picture of me in front of my own creation, but so far I have no such photo, but I have something not bad either: a picture with a young couple finding the vicinity of my picture the proper place to kiss. That was one of my highlights of the event, as another was when another couple got close to my pictures, trying to identify one of the marathon runners, who may be their friend (but he was outside of the DOF).

Groping for the National Day.

What is the most pleasant way to spend the National Day? How about having your genitals groped? Bonus: if you are a guy and the person doing it is a blond female. OR you are a girl and he is a man in uniform.

groping for the national day

Long story short: 1st of December is the Romanian National Day and traditionally there is a big military parade in Bucharest at Arcul de Triumf, which is admired by a lot of people (I heard around 15.000 were this year). Less traditional, this year the security was a lot tighter.

groping for the national day

In all the access routes, there were control filters: some gendarmes in uniforms were controlling everyone: men, women, children, old people by groping the bodies and looking inside the bags (TSA-style pnly low-tech).

groping for the national day

The gendarmes were both male and female and the intention probably was for same-gender groping only, but with such an amount of people it was chaos: everybody groping anyone. I saw an old woman protesting, who escaped only with a purse-check and an young man unhappy he was groped by a guy gendarme, not by the blond women gendarme.

groping for the national day

After this filters, there were some guys in suits watching, probably the SPP amd some more… After passing the check I stopped, turned around to shoot the groping, but somehow my view was blocked all the time. Breathing, I understood: there was a “normally” dressed guy, most likely a SPP undercover who was moving in such way to be in my view all the time while maintaining a casual appearance. Time to change my lens, put a wide one, extend my arm and shoot from above his head. He tried to extend his arms too, realized is ridiculous, exchanged a few words with a suited guy then dropped his arms. I continued shooting while asking him “is there any problem?” and when done left with “see, there is a solution for every problem”.

groping for the national day

On the positive side, when waiting in queue for the filter, I was asked if I have a press pass (had my biggest lens mounted) – don’t know if that would have me skip the filter or just go in front. Another fellow photographer was asked to take a shoot to prove the camera is working – not sure if because she had a red Nikon DLSR which the gendarmes had doubts is a real camera or because it was early in the morning, before the gendarmes got bored.
