Micu’i frate cu romănu’

There is an old saying, “the forest is the Romanian’s brother” (ro: “codru-i frate cu românul”), which I feel like paraphrasing today, “the mic is the Romanian’s brother” (ro: “micu-i frate cu românul”), where mici is a very traditional Romanian food (a kind of sausages) which most of the time is accompanied by beer.

Hell

The naive painter of this old wooden church from a Romanian village had his own vision on hell and the tortures people getting there will have to endure. The painting is hundreds of years old and made on wood, so it became pretty damaged, which is a shame, but you still can understand it and have a good laugh.

Garcea vs. Tuzgureanu

Both Garcea and Tuzgureanu are comedic stereotypes of the Romanian policemen as seen by a couple of local comedy shows and from their look, those guys seen at a St. Mary fair happening near some village are well fit for the role.

Village encounters

I don’t know of which kind those encounters are, but you can meet a mix of varied things on the roads of a Romanian village, some more unexpected than the others.

Its’ gone.
But don’t be sad, beer is everywhere, the next one is waiting for you just around the corner.

Watch

While she’s still asleep, the guardian is on duty, has to watch over her.

Superman and his dog

If Superman had a side-kick, who would that be? Lois Lane? Jimmy Olsen? Wonder Woman? (the long list can continue). Or it would be a little beast some may call “a dog”?

No sleep

This crappy song became a huge hit in Romania, titled “I don’t sleep in the summer” it was used even for political parodies. Back in Vama Veche, on the beach, I saw this tent with a message fitting it pretty much “this is not for seep, sex only”.

Everything is better at the golden hour?

There is a thought, supposedly anything you shoot at the golden hour looks better (beautiful?), so I want to test this hypothesis. True or false?

Freeze in the summer hot

Last Friday in the very center of Bucharest, on the fence of the Bucharest Museum (very close to Piața Universității) opened a new photo exhibition I am part of: Freeze in the summer hot (Ger in arșita verii). It will be open for a couple of weeks in the street, for anyone to see, it contains black and white winter photos, the refreshing thing to see in one of the hottest summers I remember:

Sunset walk

You know the ending of a classical Hollywood movie, with the protagonists slowly fading into the sunset:

Sausages

The seller was shouting “nu dați banii pe prostii, luați cîrnați pentru copii” which translated from Romanian to English is something along the lines of “don’t throw your money away of craps, buy sausages for your children”, but with rhyme. I was knowing it with “candies” instead of “sausages”.

Lazy afternoon

You can see from the direction of the shadow, it was late afternoon, still it was a very hot summer day and every spot of shadow was inviting to laziness

Sunset kiss

No words are needed here, what else would you do being in a similar situation?

Shoot me

Seeing the camera pointed at her, the old lady said “take the picture, nobody know how long I will still be around, so take it as long as you can.” I took the picture and I’m making it eternal.
