Oltenian bride

It seems like the wedding photographers in Târgu Jiu have as one of the favorite places for their “artistic” session the walking area in the center of the city, perhaps they are bored by the cliche of using Brâncuși’s Kiss Gate.

Smoke over Vidra lake

The tree is burning slowly, not sure if due to heat or a human hand. Fortunately, the Vidra lake is close, so no disaster happened.

Transalpina

Also known as the king’s road or the devil’s path, Transalpina is a road crossing the Carpathian mountains, famous for being the highest in the country, it reaches 2145 meters above sea level. After it was re-opened a couple of years ago, it became a popular touristic attraction.

On Ars

I learned today about one of my CC licensed pictures being used on Ard Technica on an article about software patents. Of course the usage is properly made, with credits and linking back, that’s how it is supposed to be (still not perfect, they didn’t say CC-BY-SA about the picture, but that is said on the link they provide).

Fishermen

When I saw this fishing boat on the Black Sea it reminded me of another fishing boat I encountered in my Indian travel half a year ago: two fishing boats, two fishermen encampments, worlds apart still the same trade.

Anti-corruption

People in the streets are protesting against the rogue communist government, but this is not all, some others are out to protest against the general corruption (the two are related but not completely the same). So a few artists meet in front of the Peasant Museum in Bucharest with a set of self-made puppets representing the “corrupts” which all of us have to support, walked them on the street and then treated them with a beer.

Post-referendum

The referendum held by the communist coalition led by the prime-minister Victor Ponta and his fellow senator Crin Antonescu, now interim president, failed, they didn’t succeed to get the majority needed to dismiss the democratically elected president Traian Basescu so their coup d’etat failed at least partially. Now people are in the streets calling those too to do the moral thing and resign, even if this is very unlikely, to say the least.

Saramura: making of

Saramură is a traditional Romanian dish, made most of the time from fish. You start by grilling the fish (mullet in this case)

Then put the meat in a salty sauce (brine) with garlic, hot peppers and vegetables. Served with mămăligă.

Dolphins on the beach

Death is a fact of life, even the noblest or the most intelligent creatures die eventually. Such is life, sad but true.

dolphin

The object the kid above was looking at was a dolphin dead on the beach of 2 Mai at the Black Sea.

And next day on the beach of Vama Veche, also at the Black Sea, there was another dolphin, this time accompanied by seagulls.

The drunk dog

It looks like the dog found a treasure buried in the sand of the 2 Mai beach, is a bottle of beer 🙂 Don’t ask who emptied it…

Dog story

The story is simple: the two dogs meet on the beach, they sniff each other and then they become friends. Simple and direct 🙂

Referendum

The political situation in Romania turned as bad as expected, with the democratically elected president suspended by a rogue government and we are heading for a referendum this Sunday. Fortunately, the European Commission acted and made the government to respect the law (the government tried to put a government order in place of the law and eliminate the presence threshold for the referendum), so in the light of this, the most effective way to act against it, Romanians who want to preserve the democracy have as the best option to boycott the referendum, this way it will be invalidated in the case of a small voter turnover. Hopefully, the fraud won’t change the numbers from a projected 30% presence to the 50%+1 they need.
In support of the democratic action, I made a few images based on my old photos encouraging people to avoid a communist future for the country by boycotting the referendum.
Personally, I won’t vote and on top of that I will be out of the city for the next few days, I am going to the sea side (expect pictures).
