A walk in the park – the winter edition

With this snow all over us and no handy access to some beautiful landscape out of the city, I decided for a week-end walk in the park, trying to capture the moment:

snow

The park where I used to shot candids all summer long, even my favorite bridge, everything was empty and desolated

Very few chicks around, and not of that kind:

Still, some people were having fun:

I also visited the cathedral which impressed me in the autumn colors, but obviously it was changed:

In the place where squirrels used to play (they probably hibernate by now) there was a different fauna, somebody got a pony:

And transportation was assured by their full-grown versions:

Of course there was animation, with reindeers and elves (unfortunately, not my favourite type of elf):

…and I stand corrected, there were some chicks:

When the night come, the colorful lights were fired:

Even the fake reindeers:

And a mighty Christmas tree:

Well, is cold enough, a close-up with the tree and I can go home:

More bees, more chrysanthemums

A year ago I had a beautiful experience in a warm sunny weekend with the opportunity to take some great shots of bees and chrysanthemums in my garden. This year my garden is in a much worse shape (I totally suck as a gardener) but still a nice couple of days, some flowers and a few bees… and this look like the start of a tradition.

Squirrels in autumn – cutesy

Remember my old friends and models, the squirrels from the Herastrau Park? I meet them again this week-end, when shooting the beautiful autumn

Butterlies near the forest

Camping in the middle of the nature has a lot of gifts, like parting with the insects. Those may be unpleasant, like the insect bites on your arm and legs, but also beautiful, like a butterfly encounter. You see him first near your tent and if following things may happen. You only need space on the memory card (and the space is plenty).

In the forest

Going in the middle of the nature, even for a geeky event, I obviously couldn’t stop myself from going a few steps away in the forest and looking around. You will surely find little gems.

… now I am definitely NOT bold enough to tag those as “food” 😀

Sitting like a fly on the… fence

A warm, sunny summer morning… the fly is a being too, with full rights to enjoy the sun.

Dead fish floating

Many times I talked about the beautiful parks in the city, but there is also an ugly side you don’t want to talk about very often…

And think there are people who bathe in that water…

The firebug and the chicory flower

Morning after morning I pass near that shaded chicory flower and wonder about taking a better shot, but today it was a little different: a firebug (Romanian: Vaca Domnului) was walking around, offering me the opportunity for a different take (yeah, in the backgrounds are blue chicory flowers and the fence is making difficult for me to shot them).

A bug’s life

On the look for the snail remake, I got one day unexpected help from a street dog: he was barking at the dirt, which made me look closely and notice his "enemy", this ugly bug.

Snail remake

Another remake for photos lost in the same accident, this time for the snails photoshot, which was somewhat easier: there are plenty of snails after a rainy night, you only need to find a way and re-capture the original enthusiasm for the shot. And that is hard.

Zoo

Sorry for posting like this, I know the proper way was to make individual posts, with short introductions and references, but the Zoo trip was unplanned and I am time contrained, unable to make the proper research, so here are some photos, just photos.

But one more think before jumping to the pictures: I used to hate the Zoos, based on my experience with the Bucharest Zoo, which is small and horrible, with a lot of tortured animals. Well, the Berlin Zoo is a world apart, it’s awesome.

Berlin

For a few days I am in Berlin for a Fedora (Linux) Conference, FUDCon, so I am using the opportunity to take a lot of photos. One of the first things to notice was the garbage on the street, seeing it I started to doubt my view on the street garbage in Bucharest

I aslo encountered weird people on bikes, like you see on photo jokes from China:

But the bunnies in the huge park/forest near the Tegel airport weree absolutely amazing and unexpected:

And the open display of the hookers on street was somehow a new sight for a boy from Bucharest:

Swans. In black and white.

The white swans are symbol for what swan stand for: grace, purity, delicacy… and black are original, unusual, exotic. So I guess it was a good idea to have both types in the Cismigiu Park. An unusual +1 for the people in charge.

Honey: how it’s made

I can’t say which honey is the best, but the one made from Black Locust flowers (Romanian: salcim) is really good, with nice flavor and color. So here is how it’s made: in late spring/early summer the bees are collecting the pollen from the flowers and then making the sweet thing. Mmmm… pancakes with black locust honey, aren’t you mouth watering?
