Invaders

This pictures is actually taken at a show called “Invaders”. The smoke and sparks were pointed towards the audience, but somehow we escaped undamaged. The camera too.

Fireworks Fail

The New Year Eve is the perfect opportunity for the photographer to get out of his house and capture some nice fireworks in all their glory. This year, for personal/family reasons, I had to stay home but still attended some fireworks: the closest ones, so we went to the Cuza (also known as I.O.R.) Park in Bucharest. It was as expected from our shady mayor: weak, boring, cheap. Reminder: next time, make the extra-effort and do to Piața Constituției, that is the worthy fireworks place in the city.

Carving

jack o' lantern
This year I carved my own squashes (instead of traditional pumpkins used some small gourds), put candles inside, lightened them and then took some photos, of course. I am not into the Halloween stuff, but carving pumpkins is fun.

Ffffff…fireworks!

I like fireworks and it was a while (at least a couple of years) since I saw a good one (being busy whit other things when they happened), so when I learned there will be fireworks in the last night of B-FIT, I couldn’t miss the opportunity.

Neige de feu

Neige de feu (snow fire) by Cie entre Terre et Ciel was a spectacular show with fire, part of B-FIT Street, the Bucharest international theatre festival.

Smoke over Vidra lake

The tree is burning slowly, not sure if due to heat or a human hand. Fortunately, the Vidra lake is close, so no disaster happened.

Phoenix, fight, volcanos – fire show

For the Earth hour there was this fire show in the center of Bucharest, near Parliament Palace in the Izvor park by the band called Crispus – it was the first time when I saw them and the spectacle is impressive.

Fire

Not sure what happened here, but the orchards were covered with fire and some firemen fighting with it. I wish I wasn’t in a bus going to full speed, but in the middle of it, better capturing the moment (I know, the photo is bad: made trough the window of a running bus).

2012

It was almost a tradition to show fireworks in the first photo post of the year, so as I have a few, I am going to post them. Not many, since now is not in the city but in a remote location from the Lotru mountains.

Dragon Fight: The Fire Within

All of us have our dragons. The question is: can we fight them? Do we want to fight? Why?

The Gathe… what? Gathering. At least there is some fire…

Last Saturday I took a pause from shooting hotties and tried to please my lenses with some geeky stuff at a convention called “The Gathering: Origins”, which was supposed to be about “board games, guns and airsoft equipment, action figures, darts, fussball, SF and more”. I can’t say it was a disappointment, it was exactly how I expected it: lame.

First, the cosplay is key. And I can’t call cosplay a “Japanese” girl dresses in something looking like a bathrobe stolen from her mother and a Lara Croft dressed for winter won’t cut it.

the gathering

Or how about the hot nurse? Not sure what her purpose was there (I believe a booth with some guys fixing PCs), but she was so bored and tired, not wanting to pose any more.
the gathering

Of course there were some girls willing to pose and hoth enough to worth that, but without the costumes, where’s the fun?
the gathering

Worth noting were a few tables with people playing Warhammer

the gathering

And maybe a few figurines (but not that great: the same old Batman, the same old Star Wars, the same old Lara…)
the gathering

All in all, I don’t regret leaving the fashion show for it, I returned to that the next day for more bling.

The part I really liked was a good reprise of juggling with fire:

There were a few people doing it and knowing what they were doing:

Video: fireworks for 2010

In addition to the photos from the New Year’s Eve parties and fireworks I also recorded vidos. Unfortunately blip.tv failed with the conversion so the entire show is available in a ~970MB .OGV (Ogg Theora) and the only thing I can offer is a low-quality cut version (09:50 minutes long) on YouTube.

How I spent the 2010 New Year’s Eve

A short lived tradition (it was the second iteration), but is still a tradition, it was again the time of the year to shoot New Year’s Eve concerts and fireworks. Unlike the last year, when my choice was to boycott a communist mayor ans stay in Piața Revoluției, this year I headed to the main event, in Piața Constituției.

However, I still passed trough Piața Revoluției, with a party organised by Pro TV and MTV, which was flooded with people wearing blue and red fedoras (I covered more about this elsewhere).

One thing to appreciate is those people know hot to make a show, even if they co bad in the opposite direction with manele:

After spending about half an hour there, I moved to Piața Constituției:

There it was a varied audience:

Listening to music

And having tons of fun

I appreciated the “evil” side

And rocked a bit

And then participated in the countdown

And enjoyed the show, with lasers

All the time I was as busy as I could: in the right hand holding (and shooting with) the dSLR, and with the left hand recording video:

One over another, it was a positive experience.

Fascination with fire

I don’t know why, but certainly we, people, have a fascination with fire: we could stay for hours and look at the flames. It’s like magic.
