The “Wow!”

How do you know you did your work well? A spontaneous “Wow!” from the client when seeing the resulting prints is a good indicator of it. And rewarding in itself for you.

Event photography website

The 2015 season for event photography is approaching fast, those who are not ready for it, should get soon. As part of my preparations, I updated my event photography website with a new, simpler and more beautiful design and, more important, with current sample photos. Have a look and if you like what you see, we can talk, maybe I can make you an interesting photography offer.

Printed photo books

They always look more impressive when printed on paper

Photo book albums

The general wisdom says photos look more impressive when printed, here’s a sample of the photo book albums I can do for an event like a wedding. That’s a service offered on top of the shooting and I am open for reservations. If interested, contact me for an in-depth talk, a quotation or more samples.

Best of luck, Iulia!

My friend Iulia is these days in Bangkok, Thailand, as a contestant in the Miss Grand International beauty contest. I am sure she is having plenty of fun there and a wonderful experience and I wish her best of luck in the contest. Note: for those interested, there is also a popular vote (for which one has to “like” a Facebook page and also provide an email address).

Unfortunately, not everything is perfect: the organizers picked a less than ideal picture of her for the presentation and our special shooting came a bit too late, so they used some stuff from Iulia’s Facebook profile. Nothing unusual. Unfortunately, nothing unusual happened when the news hit the Romanian media: Adevarul, a national newspaper, wrote about it. They also used a picture taken from Facebook, this time from a car-themed shooting and, as one can expect from the lame Romanian journalists, they credited the picture to Facebook. Not to the model, not to her employer, not to the contest, not even to the photographer but to Facebook, like it is a stock photography agency. And as a proof of their bad faith, the newspaper cropped-out from the picture a discrete watermark by the photographer. This the level of our press and not the first time I witness it first hand.

Update: …and it worked 🙂 The newspaper article in Adevarul is now edited with some more appropriate credits and more pictures

Advertising: event photography

If so far I flirted with event photography, this year I am getting serious in this, showing how it can be done in a professional manner. From the various types of events, from corporate to anniversaries and ceremonies, the wedding are the most important and their season is closing fast, clients should waste no time in booking the services, as soon many photographers will be fully loaded. Preparing for this year’s season, I launched a few weeks ago an event photography website targeting weddings, baptisms, anniversaries, corporate events, spectacles and such. There is also this set of posters, sampling some of my works and capabilities.

Event photography portfolio website

It wasn’t planned, just happened to be ready now, but is a cute coincidence to launch my event photography portfolio website on the Valentine’s Day. Maybe is a sign 🙂 But the important thing is, if you need event photography (be it a wedding, an anniversary, corporate event, spectacle or something else), I am open for commission. For the 2013 wedding season start now, is no much time left until the summer!

Photo editing tutorials

Lately I wrote on my general blog a couple of photo editing tutorials, both of them are targeted at GIMP, since this is what I use on my day to day work. Of course, the principles are general and can be applied to other similar tools.

The first one is about watermark removal on photos submitted to Wikipedia, this is something perfectly legal, since those pictures are submitter under a Creative Commons Attribution Share Alike license.

The second tutorials refers to creating customs grids to be used on photo editing but also in graphic and layout design.

A last sprint for Wiki Loves Monuments

I have queued for editing and upload around 75 pictures taken in the last week-end, I will add them to my other contributions to Wiki Loves Monuments, is the last week and my hope is to exceed the numbers from the last year, when the total was close to 5800 pictures (this morning we were at just a bit over 5000)

The Wiki Loves Monuments photo competition

In only a few days the Wiki Loves Monuments photo competition is starting: from 1 to 30 September everyone is invited to submit too Wikimedia Commons pictures of the historical monuments in the country, they will be used to enrich Wikipedia with facts about our country.
The top 10 pictures from Romania will be awarded prizes and will go for the international contest, with its own round of prizes.

WLMRO bragging time

The winners of the Wiki Loves Monuments photography contest are announced today, time for me to take a deep breath, rest and then brag a bit 😀

From the almost 5800 submitted pictures, the jury made a short selection of 284 “finalists”, pictures considered the best and worthy of a closer evaluation. Despite my notices and warnings, the other members of the jury selected a few of my own submissions among those finalists (as an organizer and jury member, I could not receive any prizes, but couldn’t abstain from contributing). And again despite my notices and warnings, they noted my photos (I disqualified them to be fair, giving my notes as ZERO) and, even with one of the 3 jury members noting them “0”, they are not the last in the list.

Bunt enough talk, here are the pics:
